Durham internship opportunity with MicroElastic for mechanical designer

Hi everyone, my name is Peter Hollender and I got my BSE from Duke in 2009 (ECE/BME) and my PhD from Duke in 2015 (BME).

MicroElastic Ultrasound Systems is developing point-of-care ultrasound devices that can be used to detect and track progression of sclerotic skin diseases and enabling clinicians to better manage blood cancer patients after stem-cell therapy.

We’re looking to hire an intern for the summer to help with mechanical design and testing for our prototype device. We are looking for someone with CAD and rapid prototyping experience to work with both engineers and clinicians on device design and implementation. This internship will be a great opportunity to see an early stage device through initial usability and clinical testing. BD Role:

Who should apply:
Qualifications-
MBA summer intern would be preferred. The candidate will need strong quantitative and interpersonal skills. Background in management consulting or investment banking would be a plus but is not a requirement. Healthcare background would be a plus but is not a requirement. Previous experience working in a fast paced cross functional environment is necessary.

Time Requirements-
The internship is 10-12 weeks. The intern may be given one substantive piece of analysis or multiple smaller pieces of analysis in order to provide the appropriate workload.

I used the skills I learned at Duke to create a social enterprise: Promethean Community. We are the leaders in the field of community engagement in Latin America. We design interactive workshops to help deepen partnerships between organizations and the communities they serve. We are currently working on a project to help address chronic malnutrition in Guatemala. Our headquarters are in DC.

We’re looking to hire an intern for the summer to work primarily with our monitoring and evaluation specialist, Dr. Erin Fletcher (T’04), on background research; data collection, cleaning, and analysis; and survey design.
